I support Clint Zweifel for Missouri State Treasurer

0
I have known Clint Zweifel for the past few years and know him to be a public servant who is truly dedicated to making Missouri a better place for all people, especially working families. Here is a link to his website if you want to know more. I asked a few questions of his campaign to help the voters of the 15th Ward get to know Clint better:

15th Ward: “Why are you running for State Treasurer?”

Clint: Serving as one of just six Missouri statewide elected officials provides a unique opportunity to stand up for Missourians. I see statewide elected office as a place to communicate values we share: economic opportunity, high-quality education, retirement security and health care access. By communicating those values, I can change political dialogue in Missouri and improve fiscal policy, bringing it back to a focus on helping create opportunities for all Missourians. I have proposed and will advocate for legislation that makes college more affordable, protects investors and renews the promise of homeownership by reducing the burden of property taxes and protecting consumers.

15th Ward: “What is your Background?”

Clint: I grew up in Florissant, Missouri. I learned the value of hard work and fiscal responsibility from my parents. My father was a second generation union carpenter and my mother is a hairdresser. I was the first member of my family to attend college. I received a Bachelors in political science and my Masters in Business Administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. I have been the research and education director for Teamsters Local 688, where I organized educational programs for individuals preparing for retirement.

15th Ward: “What makes you experienced to be State Treasurer?”

Clint: I am the only candidate with a record in Jefferson City of standing up for Missouri families to protecting health care access, making higher education affordable and protecting homeowners from mortgage fraud and high property taxes.

I have a proven track record of leadership in policy and politics. I established myself as the leader for House Democrats on fiscal policy and higher education. I formed a policy organization within the House Democratic Caucus and as Policy Chair, developed proposals on investor and retirement protection, mortgage reform, college affordability and early childhood education. I serve on five committees in the state legislature: Ways and Means (ranking member), Special Committee on State Parks and Waterways, Special Committee on Tax Policy, Special Committee on Retirement and Joint Committee on Tax Policy.

I chaired the Missouri House Democratic Campaign Committee in 2006, leading all Missouri House candidate recruitment and fundraising efforts. That effort resulted in the largest Democratic net gain in the House since 1978.

15th Ward: “What is a typical day in the life of Clint Zweifel?”

Clint: Meeting with voter across Missouri and discussing issues important to Missouri families.

Grand Oak Hill Block Captains Candidate Forum

I just wanted to say thanks to the folks at Grand Oak Hill Block Captains for putting on a candidates forum for the 15th Ward Committee persons races and the 67th District State Representative race. Organizations like the Grand Oak Hill Block Captains are the lynchpins that make our neighborhood stronger. It was my pleasure to participate.

Emack & Bolio's is an ice cream store located in the old Kabloom site at the corner of Grand and Arsenal. Check it out. I had some the other day, it was the perfect way to cap off a long hot day of canvassing the ward.

This weekend was the Pridefest parade and I was happy to celebrate in the parade and activities with the 15th Ward Democrats. I read that over 80,000 people joined in the celebration this weekend. Above is the Obama crew marching in the parade.
