Some of you may know about this already but the Federal Government has given the City of St. Louis a grant to update South Grand Ave. between Arsenal and Utah. Right now, the proposal is to make Grand in that area one lane in each direction plus a turn lane. Also, at each intersection they are going to add sidewalk "bumpouts" that decrease the amount of street pedestrians have to cross which also sets up parking lanes.
As many of you may have noticed, they have re-striped Grand and have put up concrete barriers where the bumpouts will be. The streets department is testing the proposed changes to see if they work. I was skeptical when I first heard this plan but after some though I now support it. If the Delmar loop can be successful with this setup, so can South Grand.
All the comments I have heard so far have been (surprisingly) positive. feel free to share your comments on this blog, but I would urge you contact the team running the project. There is a hotline to call, the one thing I do know is that this project is focusing heavily on citizen input, feel free to share your thoughts.
